The picture of a bruised Johnathon Holmes spread like wildfire in late 2015. The man followed a 21-year-old woman for several kilometers and then attacked her. According to The Mirror, 35-year-old Holmes took her into the bushes and tried to rape her. But she fought back—vigorously. She punched him several times in the stomach, bit his tongue and used her keys as a weapon to stab him in the neck. Holmes fled the scene but was later seized by the British police. He confessed to the crime and was sentenced to four and a half years in prison, writes the Metro. Now the police had commended the 21-year-old woman with an award honoring her courage.
Police gave the 21-year-old woman from South Yorkshire, England a bravery award. They praised her for her courage and because she gave such a good description of events even though it was a traumatic experience.
“You displayed an astonishing level of bravery during this investigation, your actions undoubtedly deterred the offender from continuing his assault and your detailed recollection of such a traumatic event, led to the arrest, conviction and imprisonment of a very dangerous criminal,” South Yorkshire Police superintendent Scott Green told the woman.
“On behalf of South Yorkshire Police we recognize your bravery, selflessness and truly outstanding courage in helping make this city a safer place for every woman in it,” he continued.
