Large crowds had gathered on the beach to see a firework show on the turn of the New Year. A video of Elisangela’s death has since emerged online, with footage depicting a large bang and the crowd scattering.

Elisangela, 38, is said to have suffered injuries to her chest and arms, injuries from which she later succumbed.

Witness Luiza Ferreira, 20, who was also on the beach, told g1 Santos: “When it was midnight, I hugged my mother and saw a very strong flash.

“Soon after, everyone started screaming.

“When I went to look, I saw a woman lying on the ground all bleeding, and the boy who was with her fallen too.

“In this he got up, but when he realized how she was, he knelt down already ‘without ground’. It was a rush.”
