Pickles are one of those foods people tend to love or hate. There’s very few people who find them “okay.” Even the pickle-loving world is divided about the proper time and place for their sour briny taste: on burgers? On sandwiches? Do you prefer a whole pickle or the little chip things? And don’t get us started on fried pickles.
But now there’s a new pickle product sure to get people talking: pickle-flavored beer.
The unexpected but intriguing new product is the result of a collaboration between two brands based in Forth Worth, Texas: Martin House Brewing Company and Best Maid Pickles. The companies are located just down the road from each other, making this probably inevitable.
“This is a collaboration that is sure to DILL-ight both beer and pickle fans,” Martin House wrote on their site, unable to resist a pun.

The Best Maid Sour Pickle Beer has an APV of 5.5%. Martin House modeled the brewing process off their popular Salty Lady beer, and it involves adding Best Maid pickle brine during the brewing.
“The end result is a refreshing and pickle-y sour/salty combination that will certainly hit the spot during these hot summer days,” they wrote.
It sounds a bit bizarre, but if you like sour beers this might be up your alley. And if you’ve ever been talked into doing a pickleback shot at a bar, you know pickle juice sometimes goes strangely well with alcohol.

And the collaboration went both ways: while Martin House used the pickle product to make a new beer, Best Maid Pickles used their beer to create a new “Salty Lady Beer Pickle.”
Both products launched this month, kicking off with a big kick-off event on August 17, with pickle beer on tap and plenty of food trucks.
The pickle beer will be available on tap and in canned six-packs. We’d love to try this ourselves… unfortunately, its availability is limited. It’s only being released in certain parts of Texas (and they can’t ship it out of state), and it’s only for the summer.
