The recent blizzard in New York causes massive problems for people all over the state. A lot of lives were lost and affected because of the blizzard and families all over are mourning their loss.
One such loss is that of a young woman who lost her life in the most heartbreaking way. And now, her family is telling her story.
22-year-old Anndel Taylor was driving home from her workplace when she got caught in the historic blizzard. Her sister Shawnequa Brown told media, “I don’t know if any of us really knew how serious it was, we didn’t see the news, we didn’t know what was going on in Buffalo.”
In a group chat with her family, she told them her car had gotten stuck in the building snow. She shared pictures of her windows being completely covered by snow. She called rescue services but they were unable to get to her in time.
When Taylor was found, she was already dead in her car. Her family estimates that she had been stuck in her car for close to 18 hours.
“I feel like everybody that tried to get to her got stuck,” Tomeshia Brown, Taylor’s sister, told media. “Fire department, police, everybody got stuck. Why didn’t they have chains on their tires? This is a state that is known for snow.”

Taylor’s mother believes her daughter eventually passed because of carbon monoxide poisoning as her car’s exhaust pipe was blocked by snow.
Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz told media that two-thirds of the equipment sent to clear snow got stuck itself. A Buffalo Fire Department-associated historian reported that this was the first time in the agency’s history that the weather got too extreme for them to be able to respond to emergency situations.
Anndel’s family is now raising funds for her funeral with a GoFundMe fundraiser. They aimed to raise $12,000 but raised over four times the amount since.
