The coronavirus pandemic has affected people around the world as we take precautions to protect ourselves and prevent further spread.
We’ve been hearing plenty of news about the virus, but one story really hit home for many people: the news that Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson had contracted COVID-19.
Hanks first broke the news on Instagram on Wednesday: “We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches … we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive,” the actor wrote.
It’s a frightening situation and the news left fans around the world shocked.
While they’re just two of the 125,000+ people in the world with the virus, Tom Hanks, the Oscar-winning star of movies like Forrest Gump and Saving Private Ryan, is easily the most famous, putting a familiar face on the epidemic.
Many people have offered words of support. Hanks and Wilson are in Australia, where they are being treated in isolation.
Now, Hanks has offered an update about their condition, reaffirming his positive attitude about the ordeal.
“I want to thank everyone here Down Under who are taking such good care of us,” he wrote, with a photo of himself and his wife. “We are taking it one-day-at-a-time.”
He even imparted some wise advice for others to get through this difficult time.
“There are things we can all do to get through this by following the advice of experts and taking care of ourselves and each other, no?” he wrote.
“Remember, despite all the current events, there is no crying in baseball,” he concluded, quoting one of his famous lines from A League of Their Own.
