A small act of kindness costs us nothing and can even be something we forget about. But you never know how those small acts will impact people around you. Sometimes they make all the difference.
This is something Lauren Hinkston Hintzsche and her husband witnessed recently in the bleachers of a Chicago Cubs play off game.
Lauren Hinkston Hintzche and her husband John were settled in their seats at the Chicago Cubs game on October 10th when they noticed an elderly couple nearby trying to find their seats.
The couple explained they usually have season tickets behind the plate, but their play off tickets placed them in the bleachers.
Tough to navigate
“Even on a good day, the bleachers can be tough to navigate,” explains Lauren in a Facebook post. Luckily, there were two men who were quick to step in and help.
“They noticed right away that the older gentleman was having a tough time and had helped him down the stairs to sit in their seats.”
The two men were brothers. One lives in Chicago and the other had flown in from San Diego to hang out and enjoy the game. But precious family time didn’t stop them from making sure the elderly man got the experience of a lifetime.
“During the game they would help the older gentleman stand when the crowd stood and the one guy stayed seated at times so this gentleman could see the game.”
“We’ve done about everything else we can do”
Lauren couldn’t help but notice how affectionate the elderly couple were. Then the woman whispered something to Lauren that gave everything a whole new light.
“During the game, this older couple held hands, he patted her knee and she helped him stand when there were exciting plays.” she describes.
“About the 3rd inning she leaned over to me and said ‘He’s going through chemo right now. We have done about everything else we can do and this is the last step.'”
Lauren could barely hold back tears, especially when the man turned to his wife and exclaimed “I just love this.”
“I felt this was a story I had to tell”
Lauren was deeply moved by the couple’s story and the heart warming actions of the two brothers.
“At the end of the game, these two awesome guys made sure the older gentleman made it up the stairs with no problems.
With all the crap going on in the world, I felt this was a story I had to tell.”
So… (warning.. long post ) Even though the Cubs win was just awesome, this story tops a win anytime in my book. An…
