She’s Been Dead For Over 90 Years, But When You Look Into Her Eyes… Incredible. Now Her Story Is Intriguing Millions.

Born in Palermo, Italy, in 1918, little Rosalia Lombardo was tragically only 2 when she passed away from pneumonia on December 6th, 1920. Completely devastated by her death, her father, Mario Lombardo, took her body to the famous Sicilian taxidermist Alfredo Salafia. Her body was embalmed and placed in a glass coffin in the Capuchin monastery in Palermo. Thanks to the way her body was embalmed, she looks like she is sleeping peacefully. The girl has hence acquired the nickname “Sleeping Beauty”. Rosalia’s body remains in the monastery’s catacombs until today. Amazingly, studies have revealed that her organs remain almost completely intact and she has been called one of the best preserved mummies in the world. And all this is just a part of the story that makes Rosalia a very special girl…

With her angelic face, blond hair, chubby cheeks and a yellow bow in her hair, Rosalie lays in her glass coffin. She really looks to be simply sleeping. And this is exacerbated by an intriguing mystery: Visitors claim that her eyes open – and close – every day. The video below reveals the strange phenomenon.

When I saw her photos, I really felt like she is still alive and wants to say something. Rosalie’s mystery has captivated thousands over the years and many have desperately sought the answer. I have to say I myself can’t decide what to believe — as far as I can tell from the images, her eyes certainly appear closed, and then open.

But Italian researchers at last believe to have the answer to the riddle.

“It’s an optical illusion produced by the light that filters through the side windows, which during the day is subject to change,” says Dario Piombino-Mascali according to Discovery.com.

Even if this is the case, I still think this is a super interesting story. What do you think? Macabre, intriguing, or perhaps a bit of both? Feel free to share your thoughts in our Facebook comments box.
