The death of the Queen propelled a sequence of events for the Royal Family that they had been prepared for. However, no matter how prepared you are for the death of a loved one, it still aches.

The new Prince of Wales, Prince William has been grappling with the loss of his beloved grandmother. Apart from doing her duty as the Queen, she was also a doting grandmother who did her part in raising Prince William and Harry after their mother had passed away.
And she also made sure to groom her older grandson with lessons to help him prepare for becoming the King of England one day.
After the Queen’s passing on September 8, 2022, at 96 years old, her grandson paid a heartfelt tribute to her. He posted a statement in which he talked about how he felt lucky to have had the Queen’s guidance as entered his fifth decade.
He paid tribute to his grandmother with the post for all the love and wisdom she had bestowed upon him in his life. Appreciating her service to her people, and her love for her grandsons. He wrote, “She was by my side at my happiest moments. And she was by my side during the saddest days of my life,” alluding to the day he lost his mother and other tribulations the young Prince had to face.
Prince William was only 15 years old when he lost his mother in a car crash. He was completely devastated, as anyone would be at the death of his mother. However, the Queen famously stepped in and made sure her grandsons were well taken care of.
He wrote in his message after the Queen’s passing, “Having lost my mother at a young age, it’s been particularly important to me that I’ve lost somebody like the Queen to look up to and who’s been there and who has understood some of the more complex issues when you lose a loved one.”
In the end, he added a lesson his beloved grandma Queen had imparted to him a while ago, which he now shared with the public. She had said to a young William, “Grief is the price we pay for love.”
In August 2022, Lord John Stevens who was the lead investigator on Princess Diana’s fatal crash spoke in an interview about the aftermath of the crash and his interaction with a young Prince William and Prince Harry.
Lord Stevens recalled how difficult it had been to talk with the two young boys who had just tragically lost their mother. He went with two other investigators to Kensington Palace to talk to the young boys, but upon arrival, they were told that the two young Princes were only willing to speak to Lord Stevens alone.
He recalled how the meeting went, saying, “I outlined the conclusions for about 10 or 15 minutes, and then the rest of the time was them asking me questions.”

The young boys according to Lord Stevens had little idea about their mother’s final moments. According to him, they did not know about her last words, where she had passed, or the circumstances leading to her death.
The former chief of police recalled how emotional the conversation had been. He remembered the young boys’ anger, saying, “I have to say. I was quite emotional about it myself. They were angry about the paparazzi, who they thought were much behind what had occurred by chasing the car and making it go at 75 miles an hour. They weren’t too happy about that.”
The funeral surely brought up memories for both the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex, who previously had bid farewell to their mother at Westminster Abbey as well.
Ingrid Seward the editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine mentioned how the funeral might be particularly tough for the sons of the King, saying, “The emotion of the actual funeral service will certainly be hard for them as they remember their own mother’s funeral under the same roof of Westminster Abbey.”
In a 2017 BBC documentary about Diana, William revealed how tough it had been to be a part of his mother’s funeral procession, saying, “It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, that walk. It felt like she was almost walking beside us to get us through it.”
The brothers laid their mother to rest in September 6, 1997. They walked a route from Kensington Palace to Westminster Abbey with their father now King Charles, grandfather Prince Philip, and uncles.
And almost 25 years later, they buried their grandmother on September 19, 2022. Both brothers walked side by side together. Next to Prince Harry was their cousin Peter Philips and next to Prince William was his first-born Prince George. And all of them were behind their father who walked in the first row, accompanied by all three of his siblings.
As the procession moved past the Cenotaph in London, the King, Princess Royal, the Earl of Wessex, and the Prince of Wales all saluted in memorial to Britain and the Commonwealth soldiers.
Prince Harry and Prince Andrew merely bowed their heads as they are not working royals anymore and hence were stripped of their honorary military titles.
The Royal Family stood in formation that was predecided behind the gun carriage that was carrying the monarch to her final resting place. Two minutes of silence were observed before the sound of boots tapping in unison was heard and the sound of military order being shouted out was heard.
The Queen’s final resting place is New Palace Yard. Thousands of Britons from around the country lined up to catch a glimpse of the Queen as she was headed to her final destination.
The Queen will surely be sorely missed. Not just by her family but by the entire nation.
