There are few things Kevin Costner can’t do, it would seem.
Not only is he a certified Hollywood star, but by all accounts he’s a lovely man to boot.
Indeed, if his romantic life is anything to go by, Costner might just be every bit the kind soul most of his fans hope him to be in real life. Late last week, the 67-year-old and his partner, Christine Baumgartner, celebrated 18 years of marital joy, and they celebrated in the most adorable way.
There’s a reason Kevin Costner is a household name on the big screen. In his career as a professional actor – a very successful one, we might add – he’s seen and done it all.
Much of his life has been lived in the searing spotlight of Hollywood, but there’s another, quieter side to him that the cameras haven’t always been allowed to see.
As per reports, the Yellowstone actor is often private concerning his relationship with his wife of almost 20-years, though on occasion offers fans a sneak-peak into their romance through posts on social media.
Earlier this year, for example, Costner and Christine Baumgartner could be seen posing on the red carpet at the 2022 Oscars. Via the actor’s Instagram page, the couple made another appearance at the 2022 Screen Actors Guild.
As per reports, Kevin and Christine first crossed paths in the 1980s, though nothing came of their encounters until much later. In 1994, when Costner’s marriage to his first wife, Cindy, ended, he decided he was open to love again.
Still, it was five more years before Costner ran into Baumgartner at a restaurant and the two embarked on the beginning of a touching romance.
Their love for one another was strong, though in 2003, the couple split because they could not agree on whether or not they wanted to have kids. As per reports, Baumgartner wanted to start a family, though Costner was unsure.
Speaking to Closer Weekly, Costner explained: Costner confessed that Baumgartner gave him an ultimatum. He revealed: “She said, ‘I’m going to wait for you, but not long. When you come to your senses, come back to me. And I did.'”
He added: “Fear kept me from marrying Christine… I was afraid I couldn’t be an effective father.”
Eventually, Costner came to his senses. He explained: “I woke up and thought, ‘Am I going to lose a beautiful woman who is willing to be with me to my very last breath because I am afraid to say yes to a child?'”
And it would appear Costner’s got good reason to think so highly of his partner … as it turns out she’s an inspiringly capable woman!
On an episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, Costner recalled a specific moment when his wife impressed him with a certain, unlikely skill.
As per the actor himself, he and Christine, a fashion designer by trade, had gone fishing one day, when his wife managed to catch a fish with her bare hands. Apparently, she thrust her hand into the water, grabbed the fish, and then put it back in its natural habitat.
I don’t know about you, but I’m a big fan of Kevin Costner. I think the romance he and his wife share seems exemplary.
