Jeff Goldblum is an actor who is beloved by several generations. Even today, at 68, the actor is a viral internet sensation with fans from all over the world and of every age group.
The actor has had an eventful life, with several marriages and a lot of affairs. Never wanting to be a father, his views drastically changed at 62 when he met and married a woman who made him believe otherwise.
Jeff Goldblum is a household name at this point. The actor is best known for his work in “Jurassic Park” and “Independence Day”, both blockbuster movies. The movies were so iconic, that they have sustained him in the limelight even decades after their release.
Goldblum is considered a sex symbol and has been for years. Because of his magnetic appeal, the actor has landed himself in a lot of relationships and even marriages.
From 1980 to 1985, Goldblum was married to Patricia Gaul. Then in 1987, he went on to marry the popular actress Geena Davis but the two divorced in 1991. After his two brief marriages in the 1980s, the actor decided to stick to dating.
Until he met his wife, Emilie Livingston. The couple quickly became serious, with the pair announcing their engagement in mid-2014.
Who is Emilie Livingston?
Jeff Goldblum’s wife is more than just a mother of two! The 39-year-old has had a seriously amazing career. In her past, she has been an aerialist, dancer, contortionist, and Olympic rhythmic gymnast.
The couple has an age gap of almost 30-years but they did not let this impede their romance. In fact, their romance made Goldblum realize he’d be open to fatherhood after all.
He said in an interview that he had barely interacted with children and never really felt the appeal of fatherhood. “I never thought that I was going to do it,” he said in an interview about being a father.
Further speaking about fatherhood, Goldblum said, “I had never been particularly passionate [about fatherhood] or envisioned it for myself – I don’t have any nieces or nephews, had never seen a birth before.”
It was only when he met Emilie that he started to think about the concept of fatherhood seriously. He was about 62-years-old when he married Emilie, an age when most men are planning their retirement is when the actor decided to be all in for fatherhood.
But while this was the first time he dove all in, he revealed that in his previous marriages, he had dipped his toe into the concept of fatherhood. He revealed he had had conversations about having children in his earlier marriages but none of that ever came to fruition. Ultimately, that might have been for the best since both marriages ended in divorce.
However, when it came to having children in his 60s, Jeff made sure to deliberate over the decision and truly think about it. He spent a year in therapy, talking to his therapist about whether or not it would be a good idea.
When he finally came to a final answer for himself, he shared it with his wife who was quick to agree. Now the couple are proud parents to two young sons, Charlie Ocean and River Joe.
While the world is not too kind to older dads, Goldblum has no problems with it. In fact, he thinks it is the perfect time for him to become a father.
He said in an interview, “I feel right on schedule and I love our two boys. Everything seemed to happen perfectly. I appreciate it wildly.”
Jeff constantly talks about how his life journey led him to this moment of becoming a father at this age. He is a firm believer that things happen at the right time. He thinks at this age, he was completely ready to enjoy the opportunity to become a father with open arms; something he might not have been able to do in his past.
Jeff Goldblum recognizes the risks of having a child at a later age. He recalls a friend telling the actor “to look for schools with ramps!” which reminded him of his advanced age.
He also realizes that he might have to say goodbye to his sons sooner rather than later like most fathers. He said in an interview, “It’s not that it doesn’t occur to me. I would not want to say goodbye to them prematurely.”
He hopes he can stay around for as long as possible to be with his sons. But despite all of this, he has no regrets. He thinks at this point in time, he is much more able to be present in his son’s life and be heavily involved in their upbringing; something he couldn’t have done in the past.
“I see dads who are younger. I’m feeling good. I can do everything […] I am glad I didn’t have kids until now really. I don’t know that I was equipped and I was busy and probably more self-involved than I’m possibly capable of now,” the actor said.
It took Jeff Goldblum to be over 60 years of age to realize he did have a paternal instinct. The actor fathering children at an age later than most people is inspirational and reminds us that there are no age limits to anything!
