A woman in Florida has been arrested after two of her children were picked up on the street by sheriff’s deputies.
Mother of six, Sara Nicole Resko, was later found to have left all of her children without adequate care. Reports claim that the six siblings were infested with lice and covered in open sores.
In a statement, the Marion Country Sheriff’s Office said: “Deputies who entered the home where the children lived said that their living conditions were some of the worst they had ever seen.
“Deputies entered the home and found that there was no running water, no food, and no electricity in the house. The floor was covered in dog feces and the home was infested with flies. The home was in complete disarray and the children were only given mattresses on the floor with no linens to sleep on. All of the children had open sores and lice on them as well.”
Around 90 minutes after deputies had entered the home, Resko returned and claimed she’d only been gone a few minutes.
A review of the history of the family showed that deputies had reported on two previous occasions – once earlier this year and once in 2017 – that Resko had left her children unsupervised. The reports indicate that she had been instructed not to let her 13-year-old babysit the other children.
In light of her arrest, the Department of Children and Families took custody of the children and charged the woman with six counts of child neglect.
As per news outlet WESH, Resko is now being held on a $12,000 bond.
Thank goodness deputies were able to put an end to her neglect! It’s our hope that her six children can enjoy some semblance of normality from here on in.
