Eli Torres, the father of one of the Robb Elementary School victims, is fighting for his chance to say his final goodbye to his 10-year-old daughter.
Torres is currently in a federal prison in Kentucky for a non-violent drug offense, drug trafficking and conspiracy. According to reports he was convicted in Del Rio, Texas in 2013 and won’t be released until February 2033.
The last letter he received from his daughter was on May 20, just four days before she was killed.
Efforts were made for a “compassionate release” so he could attend his daughter Eliahana Cruz Torres‘ funeral, but those were reportedly denied. But no one has given up, in fact more people have joined the movement including Kim Kardashian.
On Tuesday, Kardashian, who previously helped free people from jail, shared her thoughts about the situation on social media.
“Her family are desperately hoping that her father, who is incarcerated for a non violent drug offense, be granted temporary release so that he can attend her funeral,” she wrote.
“I ask the Federal Bureau of Prisons to grant Eli Torres temporary release so that he can say his last goodbye to his baby girl.”
‘Every parent deserves that right.’
It has been reported that Torres has been given the option to watch his daughter’s funeral via livestream, but he has expressed his desire to attend in person.
The 10-year-old was murdered alongside 18 of her classmates and two teachers when a gunman stormed into her classroom on May 24 and began shooting.
Since the heartbreaking tragedy, strangers from near and far have come together to help the small town by donating money, creating custom caskets for the children, and demanding change to prevent another mass shooting.
Eliahana’s funeral is just one of nearly two dozen which will be taking place over the next week in Uvalde.
