Mother shares warning after daughter’s can of dry shampoo explodes in car

A Missouri mother has issued a warning after her 19-year-old daughter’s can of dry shampoo caused severe damage to her car.

The photos are incredible and serve as a warning to always read the labels on products you use, especially aerosol containers.

“We thought something fell down from the sky, but the glass was going out so we know that wasn’t the case,” Christine Debrecht told KSDK.

It took Christine and her daughter 10 to 15 minutes to figure out what caused the excessive damage to the teen’s Honda Civic. It was a can of dry shampoo that Christine’s 19-year-old daughter had left in the center console of her car. The top of the console was down when the teen left her car.

“It was hot yesterday and the can exploded,” Christine shared on Facebook. “It blew the console cover off of its hinges, shot through the sunroof, and went high enough in the air that it landed about 50 feet away.”

Christine said she was relieved her daughter wasn’t in the vehicle at the time of the explosion.

After the incident, Christine shared images of the unbelievable damage on Facebook as a warning to others who store similar products in their cars.

“I just want to remind you (and your kids) to heed those warnings on products you may be using. Please don’t leave aerosol cans (and especially dry shampoo, as this seems to be an issue with some brands) in your car!”

According to KSDK, the Honda Civic is currently at an auto body shop waiting to be repaired. Although there’s no estimate on the cost of the damage, insurance will cover the damage.
