The nation was devestated by the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. The sad tragedy left 21 dead and 17 people injured.
Now everyone is rallying behind the families of those who lost their lives to provide them with the support they need.
When the news of the Uvalde school shooting broke, it came out that several adults who were teachers in the school lost their lives. One of the brave teachers who gave up her life to protect her students was Iram Garcia.
She was a much beloved educator in the school, having worked at Robb Elementary School for 23 years; having started her teaching career at the school itself. She was also the school’s teacher of the year for 2019.
Multiple reports claim that Garcia was protecting her students when the shooting started by shielding them with her body.
Garcia left behind her husband and four children. Two days after the Uvalde tragedy that claimer her life, her husband Joe Garcia, had a fatal heart attack. Family and friends of the couple truly believe he died of a ‘broken heart’.
The four children the couple shared suddenly found themselves orphaned. The youngest child the couple had was 12 years old and the oldest being 23 years old.
Their family set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money to tide things over for the children as they figured everything out and had time to grieve this major and tragic loss.
They set a goal of $10,000 but surpassed it almost immediately. As it stands, the campaign has raised over $2.5 million. The family never expected such an overwhelming response to their campaign.
The family is incredibly grateful at the outpouring of love and support for them in this trying time. The funds will help the children take their time to heal and not have to worry about bills or anything of the sort.
It is incredibly heartwarming to see everyone band together and help a family heal from their devestating loss.
