A 3-year-old boy who neighbors say was blind was found dead in a freezer in Detroit early on Friday morning, according to reports.
Fox say that the boy’s family claim that Child Protective Services had been called 13 times this year alone. Police have not formally identified him, but family and friends have said his name was Chase.
The toddler is reported to have been blind and had some other disabilities. Police found his decomposing body in a freezer inside his family’s home, Detroit Police Chief James White said.
As per Fox, a relative said: “She (the mother) couldn’t deal with it, and we all said give him to us if you can’t deal with it.”
“He was the sweetest one. He was so sweet,” they added.
Child Protective Service (CPS), meanwhile, had been called 13 times in 2022, though were unable to make any progress with their investigations and had been denied entry to the boy’s home.
“The discovery would not be possible without the officers’ intuition. They recognized there was something not right in the way the occupant was communicating with them,” Police Chief White said.
White went on to explain that his offers had talked with people at the home, who initially tried to turn them away, as they had done with CPS. However, the officers, acting on gut instinct, called a supervisor and the CPS themselves.
White said that the 3-year-old boy’s body was located in the basement of the house, decomposing inside a freezer.
Neighbors said that they had not seen the young boy since mid-March.
“First she said he was in the hospital, and she gave him away, and then she said a couple had him – just too many stories not making sense,” the relative said.
According to reports, other children were found inside the home, with White concluding that they had lived in unimaginable conditions.
“They didn’t have anything. In the winter I saw them with summer clothes,” said family friend Lynette Hardy.
The mother of the child, a 30-year-old woman who has not been named, has been arrested.
“She had her kids taken away from her…before and got them back,” a relative said.
Stories like this simply make my blood boil. Those poor, innocent children!
