103-year-old grandmother recovers from coronavirus after less than a week of treatment

A 103-year-old grandmother has recovered from the coronavirus after a six day treatment programme at a hospital in Wuhan.

According to reports in the Daily Mail, Zhang Guangfen was discharged from hospital yesterday afternoon. Her doctor said her recovery was down to the fact that she didn’t have any serious underlying health issues.

That makes Zhang, of China, the oldest person to recover from the virus, beating out the previous record held by a 101-year-old.

As per sources, centurion Zhang was diagnosed with coronavirus on March 1 at Liyuan Affiliated Hospital of Tongji Medical College in Wuhan, where the virus originated.

At the time of her admittance she was in critical condition and barely able to communicate with medical staff.

Doctor Liao Zhenhui explained to Chutian Metropolis Daily that nurses took turns to spoon-feed Zhang and change her diapers.

However, following round-the-clock care and nutrition therapy sessions, the 103-year-old was discharged from hospital yesterday.

“The grandmother loved being complimented by the nurses,” Doctor Liao said.

“She would smile and nod every time after I told her she looked pretty.”
