8 natural tricks to cure sciatica – and avoid unnecessary pain pills

Sciatica is a disorder that impairs the quality of life of people around the world.

Back pain and sciatica affects most people at some point in life, yet scientists don’t really know what causes the disorder.

People who have problems with their sciatic nerve experience pain going down the leg from the lower back.

Sadly, for many people, this pain comes and goes throughout their life—but there are a few tricks that can lessen, or even eliminate, the symptoms.

Here are eight natural tricks everyone can try:

1. Warming acupuncture

Several Chinese studies have shown that warming acupuncture is more effective than traditional Western medicine in treating sciatica.

Research results published in Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine showed that 56 percent of participants who were tested after receiving repeated warming acupuncture treatments became completely free from their sciatica symptoms. Approximately 35 percent noticed a decrease in pain, although it took up to 12 treatments before test subjects noticed clear improvements.

2. Ice packs

Many people feel that the cold can relieve sciatica. For example, wrap a bag of frozen peas in a towel and place on the area where it hurts.

Apply the ice pack for 20 minutes every three hours and you’ll soon notice an improvement.

3. St. John’s wort

Many natural herbs and oils can help reduce the inflammation and pain of sciatica.

Above all, St. John’s wort oil is a popular natural alternative anti-inflammatory medicine.

Apply the oil two to three times a day on the spot where you have pain to find quick relief.

4. Chiropractic

Most people who have severe sciatica find that a chiropractor can help their situation.

In fact, more than half of all sciatica sufferers experience the same degree of pain relief from chiropractic care as those who elect to have surgery, according to a 2010 study in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics.

5. Exercise

Even though movement can be painful for those suffering from with sciatica problems, it’s important to be as active as possible in order to speed up the healing process.

As with many other physical conditions, it is important to get the blood circulating to the painful area to help reduce inflammation.

There’s no need to do any advanced exercises—a 20-minute walk will suffice. Swimming, which is gentle on the body, is also a good exercise option.

6. Sleep

Make sure to get enough sleep. It helps the body and muscles relax, which in turn helps strengthen and recover the nerves.

Sleep on a firm mattress with the proper amount of support. The mattress should be firm enough to keep your body in a straight line while allowing the shoulders and hips to sink.

The easiest thing to do is to talk with a chiropractor. They tend to give good advice about buying the right mattress.

7. Yoga

Yoga is known to strengthen muscles, increase blood flow, and improve flexibility.

While there is no scientific evidence that yoga can cure sciatic pain, it is believed to help in the long term.

8. Physiotherapy

Stretching is a good way to prevent back and joint pain.

A physical therapist can recommend exercises that allow your muscles to feel better and become more relaxed.

Obviously, it may be necessary to take pain medication at times, but you should give these tips a try before relying completely on drugs.

The problem with popping pills is that you might miss the body’s natural warning signs and have trouble finding evenutella basic problem of sciatica.
