As positive cases of the coronavirus continue to climb all over the world and the number of those who have died continue to rise, it makes you wonder… is there any hope for survival?
Although they are few and far between, there are stories of those who have survived COVID-19.
Just this week, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the lawyer at the center of the state’s outbreak is finally at home recovering, and a 101-year-old, who was born during the Spanish flu and survived WWII, returned to his home in Italy after having recovered from the virus.
And now there’s even more promising news from Italy, according to reports a 102-year-old woman has recovered from COVID-19, which has killed more than 40,000 people worldwide.
The Italian woman, who doctors nicknamed “Highlander – the immortal,” was able to return home after spending 20 days in a hospital in Genoa, Italy.
Doctor Vera Sicbaldi treated Italica Grondona and told CNN that the 102-year-old first came to the hospital in the beginning of March with mild heart failure.
“She only had some mild coronavirus symptoms, so we tested her and she was positive, but we did very little, she recovered on her own,” Sicbaldi said.
Doctors were very impressed with Grondona’s recovery.
On March 26, Grondona stunned her doctors when she was able to leave the hospital and continue her recovery at a care home.
Due to her remarkable recovery, doctors plan on investigating her case further.
“We got serological samples, she is the first patient we know that might have gone through the ‘Spanish flu’ since she was born in 1917.”
“The virus surrendered in front of her,” her nephew Renato Villa Grondona said.
I love to hear this kind of news. The news of people recovering from COVID-19 is what gives me hope.
