Say what you want about Tyler Perry, but you can’t deny that he has a heart filled with admirable compassion and love for others.
The Lousiana-born actor has long been known for his efforts relating to giving back to the community, and it looks like he’ll be keeping up appearances in that regard, irrespective of how shambolic a year 2020 is turning out to be.
As per reports, Perry announced that his studio would be giving out Thanksgiving meals to no less than 5,000 families this weekend!
The event, named #TPSGiving, saw Tyler Perry Studios distributing non-perishable food items and gift cards to families in need.
With the on-going COVID-19 pandemic in mind, the event was drive-through only, with recipients wearing masks and being asked to remain in their vehicle.
“Although we wish that we could feed everyone in need, we will close the line at the 5,000th family,” the announcement read on Twitter.
Other reports stated that the line of people queuing up for food stretched an incredible 5 miles!
Of course, this is far from the first time that Perry has showed to the world that he has a heart of gold.
Back in 2018, Perry was outed as the truly great individual who paid off in excess of $430,000 worth of layaways at a Walmart in Atlanta. He’d supposedly tried to remain nameless on that occasion, but according to US Magazine over 1,500 customers benefitted from his incredible gesture.
Given the year we’ve been having so far, it puts a smile on my face to see acts of genuine kindness undertaken in the name of those who are perhaps less fortunate than others.
I don’t care what anyone says, 5,000 families will now have the means to experience a Thanksgiving they might not otherwise have had were it not for Tyler Perry.
Thank you, Tyler! The spirit of sharing is what Thanksgiving is all about at the end of the day.
