If you have children or know anyone who worries about their kids, you need to read this. It might save them from an unpleasant or even dangerous situation.
A British father named Bert Fulks came up with something he calls the “X-plan.” It’s based on sending a text message with nothing but a single “X” in it. But it turns out that one letter can mean a lot.
Bert Fulks from Britain had a brilliant idea and shared it on his website. After that, the genius move has spread like wildfire over the internet.
X-plan is trick to help young people get out of unpleasant or even dangerous situations. Anyone who is or has been a teen knows that you sometimes find yourself in situations where you something seems wrong, but you’re too afraid to speak up or do something about it. Bert describes the solution as follows:
“Let’s say that my youngest, Danny, gets dropped off at a party. If anything about the situation makes him uncomfortable, all he has to do is text the letter “X” to any of us (his mother, me, his older brother or sister).”
Then, whoever receives the message follows this simple plan:
After a few minutes, they call Danny’s phone. When he answers, they follow this simple script:
“Hello?”
“Danny, something’s come up and I have to come get you right now.”
“What happened?”
“I’ll tell you when I get there. Be ready to leave in five minutes. I’m on my way.”
Danny tells his friends that something has come up at home and someone is coming over to pick him up.
“Danny knows that he can tell us as much or as little as he wants… but it’s completely up to him,” Bert writes on his website.
Bert urges parents not to question their children about the situation, but just help them build trust.
It’s a brilliant idea, if you ask me. A single text message can be a lifeline to a young person. Please share this idea with your friends who are parents!
