The teenager who died after being hit by a car while trick or treating has been identified as 15-year-old Wyatt Lobato by his family.
Lobato had just got his permit to drive and like all new permit holders was asked if he wanted to become an organ donor. He wasn’t sure what that meant but agreed to it.
But little did he know that on Halloween night, his organs would be going to as many as 80 people.
“He was a really good person and didn’t have a bad bone in his body. He never did anything harmful to anybody. He always helped lighten the mood,” said his mother, Natalie Hernandez, as per KDVR News.
Police said the Colorado teen stepped out into traffic and was hit and killed by a car. Aurora Police said the driver of the car was not speeding and stopped after the crash.
His family said he couldn’t wait to meet up with friends on Halloween and rode the bus for the first time to meet them.
Lobato’s family described him as a free spirit and a lover of nature. He loved to joke around and help friends.
“His smile. You could never forget it. His smile is implanted in your head forever,” said his brother, Vaughan.
Fundraiser for memorial bench
Wyatt’s mom added: “He was here for a reason. He was a gift. He was someone you can’t even describe in words. You can’t describe a person like him.”
A GoFundMe page set up to help the family pay for funeral expenses and erect a memorial bench in his name, said Wyatt leaves behind 5 siblings and would have turned 16 years old on New Year’s Day.
“Wyatt was so much bigger than a short paragraph detailing his life. Our family is asking for prayers during this inconceivable time,” his mom Natalie, who is organizing the fundraiser, said.
