Rosanna Madina’s journey as a mother is one that is both unique and tragic. However, it is also one that has been remarkable and rewarding. She became a mother at a young age, but at the age of two, her first son suffered a tragic accident which left him with a disability that changed his and the family lives forever.
As heartbreaking as it was, the accident also led to Rosanna meeting Axel – little did she know then what an important role Axel would play in her life.
Rosanna Madina and her son Renzo, who live in Argentina, were out on in the beautiful fields on the country side where they live. Tragically that day, the 2-year-old was kicked in the head by one of the horses on the field. He was rushed to the hospital and had to undergo surgery. The little boy was close to death but miraculously survived.
After the surgery, the family spent a long time at the hospital and Rosanna was given the heartbreaking news by doctors that Renzo was left with brain damage. He would never be the same again.
From then on, Rosanna and the family had to make countless visits to different doctors due to the little boy’s condition. On one of these visits, she came across a little boy who reminded her very much of her Renzo. Rosanna asked one of the nurses about the boy and she explained that he had a disability similar to Renzo. The nurse also mentioned that the boy had been abandoned by his family and that he had been badly abused.
“From the first moment I saw him I couldn’t stop thinking about him and wanted to take him home. I never understood how a mother could abandon a child in that way,” Rosanna tells Infobae.
Rosanna was so affected by the boy, she tried to find out more information about him and where he lived. His name was Axel Figueroa and he was staying at ‘Santa Cecilia de Clarket’, a home for children with disabilities. She felt for the boy and wanted to take him home with her but was aware it might be difficult.
“I was only 25-years-old, my situation at the time was that I already had one child with disabilities who needed looking after at all times as well as a 3-year-old. I spoke with my parents since I was not sure how I would do it, but I wanted to bring Axel home with me. I felt the need to mother to this boy who had been abandoned by his own mother,” Rosanna tells Infobae.
Sadly, not long after meeting Axel, Rosanna’s dear Renzo passed away at the age of 10. He’d put up a good fight but his condition got the best of him in the end.
Rosanna’s heart was broken and the family was devastated, but now more than ever she was determined to give Axel the home and love he so deserved. Instead of spending her days mourning she realized there was a boy who needed her just as much as Renzo had.
The adoption process was long and complicated, but in 2014 she was finally officially recognized as Axel’s legal parent. Since then Rosanna, Axel and her other son Tomy have been living together as a family. Renzo might not be around, but I’m sure he is watching over them like an angel.
“Many times, when I bathe the little boy, I realize that there are missing bones in his head and I wonder what a two-year-old could have possibly done to be hit so badly and left with such physical damage,” Rosanna tells Infobae.
Rosanna story is a bitter sweet one but ultimately it’s a testament of the goodness of mankind. She truly is an inspiration to all of us.
