It’s fair to say it’s been something of a wild year for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, one where they’ve found their names in the media spotlight like never before.
It seems like an age ago now that Harry and Meghan sat down for that infamous tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.
The revelations that emerged from that discussion were enough to send the world into veritable chaos, at least so far as gossip and social media speculation in concerned.
Not only did Meghan Markle open up on her struggles with mental health whilst a member of the British Royal Family – struggles, we might add, that she claims went largely ignored – but the couple also leveled accusations of racism centered around an unnamed member of the Royal Family querying them on the potential color of then-unborn son Archie’s skin.
In the wake of the Oprah interview, #AbolishTheMonarchy began trending – Harry and Meghan, meanwhile, now rebuilding their post-Royal lives in the United States, have found peace and quiet difficult to come by.
Yet their turbulent year has taken a more positive twist. TIME magazine this week released their list of the world’s top 100 most influential people, and Meghan and Harry are on the cover!
As per reports, others like U.S. gymnast Simone Biles and Apple CEO Tim Cook also made the list.
Writing a short profile for the couple, Jose Andres praised them for using their Archewell Foundation to give a “voice to the voiceless”.
“Springing into action is not the easy choice for a young Duke and Duchess who have been blessed through birth and talent, and burned by fame,” Andres wrote. “It would be much safer to enjoy their good fortune and stay silent.
“Hand in hand with nonprofit partners, they take risks to help communities in need – offering mental-health support to Black women and girls in the US, and feeding those affected by natural disasters in India and the Caribbean.
“In a world where everyone has an opinion about people they don’t know, the Duke and Duchess have compassion for the people they don’t know. They don’t just opine. They run toward the struggle.”
US President Joe Biden also made it onto this year’s list, as did Vice President Kamala Harris.
