A pregnant nurse has died from coronavirus five days after her baby was delivered by an emergency C-section, according to reports.
As per The Sun, Mary Agyapong, 28, who worked as a nurse in England, was admitted to hospital on Tuesday last week after showing symptoms of COVID-19.
The mom-to-be tested positive for the virus and her condition soon deteriorated, leading doctors to decide that it was best they deliver her unborn baby by emergency caesarean section.
Sadly, Mary passed away at Luton and Dunstable Hospital on Easter Sunday. It’s said she did not contract the virus through her work, but rather caught the infection in the community. Her daughter, also named Mary, has now been hailed as a “beacon of light at this very dark time.”
Reports state it is yet unknown if the little girl has coronavirus herself, but she needs all our prayers now as she enters the world without her brave mama.
“Mary worked here for five years and was a highly valued and loved member of our team, a fantastic nurse and a great example of what we stand for in this trust,” said David Carter, chief executive of Bedforshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
“She tested positive for Covid-19 after being tested on April 5 and was admitted to the hospital on April 7.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Mary’s family and friends at this sad time.”
A GoFundMe page has been set up in Mary’s honor. So far it has raised £80,000 ($100,000) to help pay for funeral expenses and the like.
During these cruel and unforgiving times it’s more important than ever that we love thy neighbor and look out for one another.
Following the guidelines and self-isolating where possible can and is saving lives, but it requires we all adhere to the restrictions in place and sacrifice a little for the greater good.
Rest in peace, Mary, and thank you for all your selfless work. I know you’re in the Lord’s arms now and will watch your daughter grow up from above.
