Beer and a pirate ship. Sounds like a pretty damn sweet dream, right?
Well, if you’re anywhere near Alexandria, Virginia (close by Washington) this year, it could be so much more than that.
According to reports, Providence, a tall ship which has featured in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, will be taking up residence in June as a permanent attraction as part of the Portside in Old Town series.
And the best part about the whole thing? The ship will be offering beer cruises …
How fast was Providence? Well, most 19th and 20th sailing ships averaged between 5 and 8 knots, depending on the weather, the route, and the size of the ship. Providence probably averaged closer to 8 knots.

That’s right, me hearties, drinking beer on the open seas upon a full-scale replica of one of the U.S. Continental Navy’s first warships.
The original was captained by John Paul Jones, recognized as the father of the U.S. Navy, under the leadership of General George Washington.
Now, the replica will likely feature more cans than cannons, but that’s alright with us since … well, we love beer.
It's #GivingTuesday and we would be so grateful if you included the Tall Ship Providence Foundation in your donations today. Your help will get our program up and running — Thank you! https://t.co/jYzS4ZC1IN (Click on the little picture of the ship.) pic.twitter.com/uNfXFcgo5Z

It’s said the boat will host tours, chartered cruises, educational programs and beer cruises presented in partnership with the Port City Brewing Company, which is a long-winded way of screaming “Beer on a pirate ship, beer on a pirate ship.”
For those interested, Providence will be arriving at Alexandria’s Old Town in June, with the Portside in Old Town project running through the rest of 2019.
