Leaving children at day care can be a hassle. It’s hard to be away from our little ones all day. And kids don’t always like it, either.
But most moms and dads have to work during the day, so it’s good that day care is there to provide the best for our kids when we can’t.
And it goes without saying that 99.999 percent of day care staff members are good people who have the best intentions in mind for our children. This story is about the other .001 percent.
The unthinkable recently happened at a day care in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. But luckily, manager Shawayne Tavares had installed a surveillance camera just 30 minutes before the shocking incident took place. Or else no one might have ever have found out about it.
One of day care’s employees, 52-year-old Sarah Gable, was walking down the stairs with a four-year-old girl when she suddenly pushed the girl head first down the stairs.
Gable then looked up and noticed the newly installed camera. She quickly took the girl by the hand and lead her down the rest of the stairs.
By chance, the manager happened to be watching the security monitor while the incident was happening and immediately took action.
She called the police, ran to the stairs, and immediately fired Gable before the police arrived and arrested her.
The girl was shocked and shaken up, but fortunately escaped without serious injury. Her knee was hurt, but she was able to return to day care the next day.
Gable’s attorney wouldn’t comment on the incident, but said that his client is relieved to hear that the girl wasn’t seriously injured.
Gable was charged with simple assault and endangering the welfare of a child, and her bail was set at $25,000.
