Overnight Sensation “Hallelujah Mom” Heading For America’s Got Talent.

Stay-at-hom mom, Shannon Abbott, recently became an overnight sensation for her personal ‘mommy’ version of Leonard Cohen’s legendary “Hallelujah”. I was skeptical when I pressed play and thought to myself, not another Hallelujah cover.  But within seconds of listening to her I understood what all the hype was about. Not only is her voice angelic, the way she re-wrote the song is just brilliant. The video, which Shannon originally just meant to share with her grandma in California, has been viewed over 30 million times.

Shannon describes herself as your average stay-at-home mom. She grew up in Southern California, US, but eventually moved to Ohio where her husband is from.

They are an “average little family,” Shannon says. “Going day to day, enjoying our little lives.”

But all that changed after a video of her singing the iconic “Hallelujah” alongside her 6-month-old son sent the internet in a frenzy.

“I am thrilled and humbled that this silly little song that I wrote for a silly little talent show in teeny tiny Payson Utah, could bring so much joy to people around the WORLD!” she writes on her Facebook page. “It just goes to show that no matter where you are from, or what your background is, we all feel the power of music and the love we have for our sweet children. How blessed we are!”

A local radio station interviewed the mom, surprising her at the end by telling her they had registered her in popular US talent TV show, America’s Got Talent.

You can listen to the full interview below.

And of course if you haven’t already, make sure you watch Shannon’s incredible ‘Mommy Hallelujah’ here.

I know I have my fingers crossed for Shannon’s upcoming audition on America’s Got Talent — like this story to wish Shannon luck too!
