Second Lt. Irma Cameron Dryden, the only living Tuskegee Airman nurse, is celebrating her 100th birthday in style.
As per reports, Irma enjoyed a party adhering to social distancing guidelines, complete with balloons, flowers, music and a parade!
The 100-year-old went into military service as a medical nurse back in 1943. There, she was married to one of the airmen.
“Although their marriage ended in divorce in later years, she said that she and Charles Dryden were married November 16, 1943 participating in the first military wedding at Tuskegee,” a rep from the Tuskegee Nurses Project told 11Alive.
Irma served until 1944, when she then left the service.
As for her well-earned 100 celebrations, the centurion made a grand entrance, greeted by well-wishers inspired by her story.
She was then able to retire to her living room to watch the rest of the festivities from her window.
