To this day, I remember how magical it felt to walk into a toy store as a child. I loved looking at all the dolls, the Lego sets, the teddy bears. And if I was lucky, Mom or Dad would buy something and I could pick out a toy and take it home.
But when a mother named Bonita Ortega recently went to a toy store, something strange happened—and the event is a moving reminder of how precious life really is.
Bonita’s two-year-old son, Nixon, had broken his leg and she wanted to cheer him up with a new toy. Nixon loves the movies “Cars,” so she went straight to the “Cars” section. But while she was there, she saw something that caught her attention.
An envelope was taped to the display, and Bonita could see that there was something written on it. She approached it with curiosity and read it.
“Please use this money to buy something in honor of our son, Henry, who would be 4 on March 2, 2017.”
Bonita could hardly believe her eyes and immediately looked around to see if the person who wrote the letter was still there.
“I looked around in disbelief filled with so many emotions, I immediately started to cry, it was bittersweet tears. I was hurting for Henry’s family, but so thankful that my Nixon could honor this sweet boy,” she wrote on Facebook.
Bonita took the money and bought Nixon a garage from the movie “Cars.” He was overjoyed and has played with it constantly since he got it.
“I wish I could personally thank Henry’s parents and just tell them how thankful we are for their sweet gesture,” Bonita wrote.
Since Bonita wrote her message on Facebook, the post has received over 34,000 likes. I really hope that Henry’s parents see the post and know how happy Nixon is about his gift.
I can’t even imagine how terrible it would feel to lose a child. Rest in peace, little Henry.
