America’s oldest person celebrated her 116th birthday in Charlotte, North Carolina on Saturday, and the festivities were rich and well deserved.
We covered the build-up to Hester Ford’s latest milestone last week, and it would appear this remarkable woman marked another year without a hitch.
As per reports, Hester was celebrated with a giant drive-thru celebration that included her family, beloved friends and members of her local community.
Her family usually throw her a big party each year, but due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic – and all the ensuing restrictions – this year’s bash was a little different.
Nevertheless, Hester turned 116 without plenty of pomp. In total she is said to have 12 children, 48 grandchildren, 108 great-grandchildren and around 120 great-great grandchildren.
Clayton Harris, one of Ford’s grandchildren, told WCNC: “It’s so important if you do have loved ones, no matter what their age, cherish them especially when they get older and don’t forget to celebrate them. Because life is so short.”
As per census documents, Hester was born back in 1904 in Lancaster, South Carolina, when Theodore Roosevelt was president (yes, really!)
The current COVID-19 pandemic has meant that she can’t go to church as she otherwise would have, but Hester herself shows no signs of slowing down.
Her family have said that anyone wishing to congratulate Hester should send donations to the National Kidney Foundation.
What an amazing milestone to have achieved. Happy Birthday, Hester, and here’s to wishing that you have many happy returns.
