A groom died just two days after getting married in a ceremony after which 111 guests tested positive for COVID-19.
As per reports, the man had been suffering from symptoms consistent with coronavirus in the lead up to his wedding in Bihar, India, on June 15. He’d even been hospitalized for a short time, though was discharged before he was set to get married.
According to Metro, a relative said the groom had wished to cancel the wedding, but was swayed to keep the date by his family, who warned over the “huge financial losses” postponing it would cause.
It was not confirmed that COVID-19 was the cause of the groom’s death, as his body was cremated before tests could be completed.
Bihar’s capital chief medical officer confirmed that all the guests who had attended the wedding had been “identified and isolated” after 111 of them tested positive for COVID-19.
Sources say around 300 people attended the wedding, with another 200 attending the funeral. An investigation has subsequently been launched into the social distancing violations committed.
This is a tragic story, but unfortunately this family have paid the ultimate price for taking a risk.
We must all remember that COVID-19 still represents a threat, and that large-scale gatherings facilitate that threat.
