The severe blizzard that struck large parts of the US over the Christmas period claimed the lives of far too many individuals.
The unusual drop in temperature resulted in dangerous conditions for a lot of people, and sadly, some of them were in the wrong place at the wrong time, condemned by bad decisions or bad luck.
The stories of the storm’s victims have been coming to light over the past few days, but there aren’t many that will touch your heart like that of 52-year-old grandma Monique Alexander.
As per reports, Monique disappeared on Christmas Eve after telling her daughter she was going for a walk in their Buffalo neighborhood.
Speaking to CNN, Casey Maccarone said her mother had decided to head out on December 24, telling her daughter she would be right back. This despite the various weather warnings that predicted extreme conditions.
Many stores in Buffalo had already began closing that day after news reports claimed a blizzard could leave some areas under more than 50 inches of snow.

Speaking to CNN, Maccarone said her mom hadn’t told her where she was going. Maccarone herself figured she was just trying to make it to the stores before they shut.
It was the last time she saw her mom alive.
“We were waiting for her to come home,” Maccarone said.
“I knew something was wrong right away though, so I kind of accepted it instantly, but it’s hard knowing that she was outside for so long, too, because there were no emergency responders allowed to come outside.”
She added: “She’s always felt like superwoman and invincible, so I’m assuming that she just thought she could handle the conditions.
“Can’t really tell my mom anything, she’s going to do what she wants to do. I’m assuming she just thought she was strong enough for it.”
Monique left her property at 3 p.m. on Christmas Eve and was missing for several hours before her daughter began to seriously worry. Maccarone posted in a local Facebook group for fellow Buffalo residents, and was messaged by another user who claimed to have seen someone in the snow matching her mom’s description.
Rest in peace, Monique, and indeed all the poor victims who lost their lives over the Christmas period.
