One day, everyone grows old and needs some extra help to get them through their day.
And when that time comes for our parents, I think we’d all agree that they deserve to be given the best possible care—whether at home or in a nursing home.
So when I heard this story about a wonderful elderly woman who was being abused, I was infuriated. But luckily, the woman’s family figured out a way to make it stop. Scroll down to read the story and let’s all do our part to make sure that our elderly are well taken care of!
When Minnie Graham could no longer live at home, her family helped her arrange a place in a nursing home.
Minnie had a large family, including children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They all cared very much for their beloved matriarch and often visited her at her nursing home.
But after a while, Minnie started complaining about her caretakers and said that she was treated badly and even beaten. And there was physical evidence. Minnie had a black eye, a split lip, and bruises on her body.
When Minnie’s family took up the issue with the nursing home’s management, they claimed that Minnie had fallen out of her wheelchair.
So the family decided to set up a hidden camera in Minnie’s room to see what was really going on.
And what they saw see was, to say the least, shocking. Minnie’s main caretaker was rough and cruel. She hit and pushed 98-year-old Minnie, who screamed in pain.
After the woman washed Minnie’s body, she stuffed a towel she used to clean Minnie in her mouth.
And another person who sometimes cared for Minnie was caught on tape hitting and pinching her.
Minnie’s family reported the caretakers to the police. And even though they no longer work at the nursing home where Minnie lived, both caretakers still have their certificates, which enable them to work in other nursing homes.
It’s despicable that this can happen. I can’t even imagine how devastated I would if someone did that to my mother.
