With so many tragic stories of people losing their lives to COVID-19 we now know that it can affect people of all ages.
Sadly so many young and healthy people are being ravaged by this virus and every day it becomes more and more important to stay home and look after ourselves.
One healthy mom of a toddler is the latest victim of this dangerous virus as news emerges that her four-year-old daughter was left alone with her body for hours.
Health worker Diedre Wilkes was just 42 years old when she died after contracting coronavirus.
Her 4-year-old was home alone with her deceased mother for hours before she was discovered by police, according to CBS46.com.
Police were called to the house of the mammogram technician to do a welfare check and found Diedre’s body. It’s thought she had been dead for 12 to 16 hours and tragically her child was left in the house alone.
A test was carried out on Diedre, who worked at Piedmont Newnan Hospital in Georgia, which came back positive for COVID-19.
Diedre is not thought to have any health conditions and it’s not known how she contracted the virus.
A spokesperson for the hospital where she worked has said that they are “deeply saddened when the coroner notified us … of the sudden passing of our colleague,” as per LittleThings.com.
Those that Diedre is thought to have been in contact with are being spoken to.
“Piedmont is providing these individuals with detailed information for self-monitoring and will offer COVID-19 testing to those who request it. This employee did not work in an area treating known or suspected COVID-19 patients. Our thoughts and prayers are with the employee’s family during this difficult time,” added the spokesperson.
“As a cautionary measure, we have contacted the employees and patients who may have had contact with this employee in the days leading up to the colleague’s last day at work.”
Diedre’s 4-year-old is now with her father.
Such a tragic story and my heart breaks at the thought of more children having to experience such a trauma during this global pandemic.
