Unless you’ve been living under a sizable rock for past few months, you’d have very likely gone into the midterm elections believing that the Republicans were set to steam-roll their political opponents on virtually every battlefield.
Yet, as history has proven time and again, getting too caught up on pre-election hype and blindly believing in the hubris of one party or another, is a reliable recipe for surprise.
The fact of the matter is that the GOP didn’t even come close to the sort of dominance many had been predicting and proclaiming for weeks. This has naturally left many of those who were anticipating an almost unprecedented “red wave” disappointed.
Not just that, but there’s sure to be a renewed deal of uncertainty moving forward …
Just why the Republicans failed in their planned clean-sweep of the Democrats this week is something likely to be intensely debated over the coming weeks.
Anger, annoyance, confusion; all three emotions are present among those more senior Republicans who promised so much and delivered … well, startlingly little.
One man above all others is said to be furious with the week’s results – and what it might mean for the future.
Yep, you guessed it. It’s none other than Donald Trump.

According to reports in Vanity Fair, Trump had an hours-long meltdown after it became apparent that the aforementioned “red wave” was destined to be little more than a ripple across a small pond.
Suffice it to say the former POTUS had quite a bit riding on these midterms. Not only had he personally endorsed a number of Republican candidates, but a GOP sweep would have left him the perfect position to announce a 2024 run for a return to the White House.
Yet for once the cards didn’t fall in his favor. An adviser to the ex-president told CNN’s Jim Acosta on Wednesday morning that “Trump is livid” and ”screaming at everyone.”
Journalist Maggie Haberman tweeted yesterday that Trump “is indeed furious this morning, particularly about Mehmet Oz.” Oz lost to John Fetterman in Pennsylvania, and that was reportedly one of the Democratic victories that stung Trump the most.
Haberman added that Trump “is blaming everyone who advised him to back Oz”. Moreover, his wroth extends even as far as former First Lady, Melania Trump, said to have been a leading voice in convincing Trump to back Oz in the first place.
Interestingly, there’s yet more fuel being added to the Trump fire by way of Ron DeSantis’ crushing victory in Florida. Vanity Fair cite sources in saying that Trump “fucking hates DeSantis,” as well as the Governor appearing to be his staunchest competition for the GOP presidential nomination ahead of 2024.
As recently as Tuesday did Trump issue a vague threat in response to the idea that DeSantis might run for President.
After claiming the 44-year-old would be “making a mistake” by running, Trump promised to reveal incriminating information if the Florida Governor became a direct political rival.
“If he did run, I will tell you things about him that won’t be very flattering,” Trump said.
“I know more about him than anybody other than perhaps his wife, who is really running his campaign.”
Though not entirely unusual to see Trump throwing his toys out of the pram when things don’t go his way, the 76-year-old’s behavior this week makes for a fascinating study ahead of his potential drive to return to the White House.
