Today we can connect with anyone in the world thanks to our phones. It’s really wonderful.
But sometimes we are so deep inside our own bubble that we completely forget that other people can hear what we say. One person, Ella Johannessen, knows this all too well. During a train trip, she called her mother to confide in her about her problems.
She was really down, and everything, including her finances, was weighing heavily on her.
Over the previous 18 months, Ella had lost her father and both of his parents.
After the emotional phone call, Ella fell asleep. She didn’t wake up until it was time for her to leave the train. It was only then that she realized that a stranger had visited her while she slept.
In her lap, she found a napkin.

When she picked it up, she realized that there was £100 (around USD $142) in the napkin.
When she saw the money, Ella was so moved that she burst into tears, reports The Sun
Ella shared the story on Facebook.

Here’s what she wrote:
“Could people please share this post?
I was on the Virgin East coast train from London kings cross to Leeds, on the 27th Jan I got on at Peterborough at 14:52. I found a seat and rang my mum. I was rather stressed and upset over my financial situation and was trying to locate what had happend to £35 that had been sent to me over a bank transfer.
I spoke to her about how little money I had, how worried I was about my finances and I got upset.
After speaking to my mum I hung up the phone and went to sleep, I woke up about half hour later and noticed a napkin on my lap. Under the napkin was £100 (USD $142)
I started to cry – this is because I was incredibly thankful for your kindness to someone you don’t even know.
After a terrible 18 months where I lost my father and both of his parents it showed me that there is kindness and good people in the world. I will pass your kindness on.
I want to say thank you to the person who gave me this gift, I hope you will eventually see this.”

In this world that’s so full of pain, I’m always so happy when I get to read about people who go out of their way to spread joy and happiness.
It only takes one generous person to start a chain of good deeds!
