Working at a day care is one of the most high-responsibility jobs you can have. Parents expect that you’ll take the best possible care of their child – after all, the little ones spend many hours of their day at day care.
Unfortunately, there are still many people in the job who really shouldn’t be there.
This is just one example.
The horrifying incident occured in Illinois last week. Unfortunately, by the time it was discovered it had already been happening for several weeks.
Police received a call from Kiddie Junction Educational Institute, a day care that takes care of very young children, some of them only a few months old.
Accusations were made against three employees at the institute, a 32 year old, a 19 year old and a 25 year old woman. During a police investigation it came to light that the women were giving the children natural sleeping aid melatonin to make them sleep during their naptime.
The children who were given the supplement are between the ages of 2 and 3 years old, and the women gave them the supplement in gummy bears, reports nydailynews.com.

Didn’t think it was wrong
During police questioning the women claimed that they didn’t think that there was anything wrong with handing out the sleep supplement, since it contains melatonin (which is found in the body naturally) and that they used the gummy bears to calm the children down. But the parents had no idea what they were doing, and the packaging of the supplement clearly states that it shouldn’t be given to children under the age of 15.
Some parents noticed that their children were more tired than usual when they came home from daycare, but none of the children seem to be experiencing any serious side effects of the sleeping supplement.
It’s unclear whether the women gave the children the supplement due to ignorance, or if they knew that what they were doing was wrong and made a conscious decision. All three are now charged with child abuse.
This kind of thing absolutely should not happen!
