No matter what our age our parents never stop thinking about us.
Even after we fly the nest and set up a life of our own most of us are lucky enough to be able to still rely on our parents in times of need. We can reap the benefits of their wisdom when raising kids and getting started in our new home.
When times are tough our parents are often the first point of call to pick us up and help us get back on our feet and they continue to show us they care with little gestures of thoughtfulness.
For one much-loved daughter even after she’d left home, got married and had a family of her own her dad never stopped worrying about her.
So when the recent cold spell arrived in Oklahoma leaving roads treacherously icy, Elizabeth Boyd was nervous about driving to work.
Elizabeth’s father was at home worrying about her slipping on the ice and when she arrived at her place of work she was surprised by what she found.
She took a picture of her surprise guest at work and shared it on social media.
“You guys… THIS IS MY DAD,” she wrote. “He drove to my workplace and waited on me to arrive so he could pour a trail of salt from my vehicle to the front door of my building so that I, his 38 year old daughter, wouldn’t slip and fall on the ice…
“My heart y’all… Love you daddy.”
The photos show her dad, a bag of salt in hand, carefully scattering a path of salt across the icy road.
Her post went viral with so many people lifted by her dad’s wonderful gesture. In just two days the post had over 100,000, 116,000 shares and over 9,000 comments.
‘We are blessed’
“Do something extra special for him!” wrote one person. “Definitely give him a HUGE HUG, big enough for all of us who no longer have our dads.”
“This melted my heart!!” wrote another. “What an amazing Daddy you have. Wish mine was still here.”
“[M]y Dad is just like yours!” wrote a third. “I’m 39 and married! And he still checks on me every single day! they sure don’t make them like that anymore! We are blessed!”
We are all blessed if we have someone in our life as thoughtful as Elizabeth’s dad.
