The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has meant adjustments, changes and canceled plans for virtually all of us.
Yet while the vast majority are simply sitting tight, bemoaning bad luck, and waiting for the entire thing to blow other, one Illinois couple have decided to make a difference to others in need.
Emily Bugg, 33, and Billy Lewis, 34, should have been tying the knot at a lavish ceremony this year, only for the plans for their special day to end up canceled due to coronavirus.
In an act of admirable compassion, they then elected to donate their catering deposit to help provide meals for people in need at Thanksgiving.
As per reports, the pair used their $5,000 nonrefundable deposit to purchase 200 Thanksgiving dinners for clients of Threshold, a nonprofit mental health provider who help those struggling with serious mental illnesses and substance abuse conditions.
“In the grand scheme of things, canceling a big wedding isn’t the worst thing that could happen,” Bugg, who works as an outreach worker at Thresholds, said to Good Morning America.
“We’re happy to be married, and we’re so happy that we could help Thresholds’ clients feel the connection of a Thanksgiving meal as a result of the wedding cancellation.”
Instead, Bugg and Lewis were married on Oct 1 at City Hall in Chicago, foregoing the need for a large event and making the aforementioned donation possbile.
At a time when the sheer chaos of 2020 has a lot of people feeling down in the dumps, it’s stories like this that lift our hearts and make us remember what the spirit of sharing can really do.
