Baby showers are huge today, especially in the U.S., and no excited expectant mom can go through the weeks leading up to her due date without holding one.
So, when Veronica Alvarez-Rodriguez was invited to her friend’s baby shower she wanted to make sure she had the perfect gift.
Little did she know the item she was about to buy would end up becoming the center of a police investigation.
The Florida military wife stopped at a Goodwill store in Valparaiso and thought she’d struck gold when she found the perfect purchase.
‘You got me a gun’
“It was like the perfect gift for the baby shower,” Veronica said referring to the Baby Einstein’s bouncer box.
She said the item, which cost $9.99, was unopened and looked new, according to the Dothan Eagle.
When she arrived at the baby shower and the dad-to-be opened her gift he declared something that left her shocked.
“You guys got me a gun,” the father-to-be shouted.
Veronica and her husband in shock
Veronica was horrified to see what he had pulled out of the box: a Mossberg 715T semi-automatic rifle which had live ammo in it.
Veronica said some of the guests found the “gift” amusing while she and her husband were shocked.
According to a Facebook post from Veronica about the incident, Crestview police was called to the address to inspect the deadly weapon.
Officers investigate the deadly find
The gun was found to have a clean serial number and officers told her ‘do what you want with it’.
“The gun now belongs to Baby Jonathan who is due to enter this world any day now,” Veronica wrote on her Facebook page.
According to Unilad the gun was taken away for investigation the following day and inquiries are continuing.
