Unfortunately, there are many stories out there about police abuse and misuse of power. That’s why it’s so important to recognize the positive stories that instead reflect ‘our finest’s’ good deeds.
This is a simple, but great one.
Terri Mae was leaving work late one day after a long shift at Erin’s House for Grieving Children. It was very late and as she exited the building she realized she was completely alone.
She normally left work with her friend Benjamin, but he wasn’t there that night.
Any of us who have ever been in a similar situation, women and elderly people especially, recognize that this can be a relatively frightening situation.
She packed up, set the facility’s alarm, and walked out into the dark, empty parking lot, feeling apprehensive.
What if someone is lurking nearby, ill-intended? Such thoughts can be disconcerting, especially with all the scary things we read and see on the news.
But that’s when she spotted something that made all her fears go right out the window: a single Fort Wayne, Indiana, police cruiser, watching over the parking lot.
She didn’t hesitate and walked right over to the officer inside, Officer Hunter.
“He told me that he specifically came back because he saw that there was only one car left in the parking lot and he wanted to make sure the driver (me) got to the car safely!” she later wrote on Facebook.
Terri was instantly relieved and felt completely safe. Officer Hunter and her had a nice chat, and Terri discovered that he also works as a mentor to local youth.
With Officer Hunter protectively watching over her, Terri made it back to her car and home, feeling completely safe and in very good hands. What a wonderful police officer!
