We’re taught from an early age never to judge a book by its cover, but that doesn’t mean we always abide by the rule.
After all, casting assertions based on appearances is something that’s ingrained in virtually all of us, whether we like it or not. So you can imagine what the audience and judges were thinking when a timid 53-year-old farmer walked out onto the X-Factor stage and proclaimed she was going to sing Cilla Black’s classic “You’re My World”.
And yet, as if to prove the old aforementioned adage correct, the woman, named Jacqueline Faye, didn’t shirk once in the spotlight.
On the contrary, she delivered a performance that practically raised the roof!
Jacqueline began by introducing herself, telling judges how she lived on an assuming farm with her husband, and was a fan of walks and countryside living in general.
She also told how she shared said farm with chickens, ducks, horses, and two peacocks named Chaz and Dave. The brief glimpse into her life was enough to prompt laughs from the audience, though Jacqueline had an ace up her sleeve that would quickly prove she was no joke.
Not only that, but the 53-year-old struck up quite the rapport with judge and music industry icon Robbie Williams.
“He’s not just an entertainer, he’s an icon. He’s the kind of guy I’d like in my family,” she said.
With the chit-chat out the way, it was time to see if Jacqueline’s singing voice matched her cheery attitude …
… and it did.
Simon Cowell said of her performance: “As you walked out I’m kind of thinking to myself [that] maybe you’ve walked on to the wrong show by mistake. And I’m thinking this isn’t going to be great… and then you were.”

Indeed, she was great. If nothing else, Jacqueline is proof that you’re never too old to follow your dreams and make good on the promises you’ve made to yourself. Society may doubt you, those who look at you might not think much, but so long as you remain firm in your belief of yourself, you’ve always got a shot!
