A 100-year-old cancer survivor from Indiana celebrated her birthday after learning that she had beaten coronavirus.
As per reports, Leora Martin, who lived through World War II, was diagnosed with COVID-19 in April along with 75 other residents at her assisted living facility in Elkhart County.
However, she was given some fantastic news just one week ahead of turning 100 on June 13 when she tested negative.
Leora and her twin sister, Delora Bloomingdale, who resides in California, celebrated becoming centenarians by way of a Zoom call. It was a double celebration for Leora, given that she’s now able to add COVID-19 to the list of things that have tried and failed to stop her in her tracks.
Greenleaf Health Campus, the assisted living facility where Leora is a resident, posted to let others know that she and her twin sang Happy Birthday to each other on their call. She also received a much-welcome visit from her daughter.
“It was sort of a relief,” Leora told The Elkhart Truth of her recovery, as per reports.
“You have to remember, I’ve been through cancer. I had to go to the hospital for five days with rods in my body –- that was not comfortable, but I survived. They didn’t think I would survive pneumonia last year either, but I did.”
When it comes to the secret for living a long life, Leora said: “Keep moving.
“Also, keep loving other people.”
