A 34-year-old cancer survivor has become the youngest person in the U.S. to die from coronavirus following a recent trip to Walt Disney World and Universal Studios in Florida, as per reports.
Metro say Jeffrey Ghazarian succumbed to the virus just days after testing positive. He had flown from Orlando to Los Angeles on March 2 but developed a cough on March 8. According to TMZ, he was coughing up blood the next day.
After flying home from his trip, Jeffrey went to the ER with a high fever and was diagnosed with pneumonia while he awaited the results of a test for COVID-19.
The 34-year-old was given antibiotics and told to self-quarantine. Then, on March 13, it was confirmed he was suffering from coronavirus and he was admitted to a hospital in Pasadena, California.
As per reports, Jeffrey spent five days fighting for his life but passed away on Thursday, March 19.
He had previously beaten testicular cancer in 2016 and had a history of asthma and bronchitis as a child, though his family said he hadn’t needed his inhaler for years.
Jeffrey was said to have been approved to receive remesdivir, the antiviral currently involved in clinical trials as a potential treatment for coronavirus. Tragically, the medicine didn’t reach him before he died.
His grieving family wrote on his Facebook page to say: “Our sweet, loving, fun Jeffrey went to be with Jesus this morning.
“He suffered a lot and put up a good fight. We will miss our Jeff everyday but we are thankful for all the fun happy memories of the times we had together.”
There are now more than 14,000 confirmed coronavirus cases in the U.S. and that number is expected to continue to rise.
