Ambulance driver takes patient to the beach, so she can see the ocean for one last time

A dying patient was being transported to a clinic where she would receive palliative care for the final moments of her life.

But then the woman asked the ambulance drivers if they could take a detour.

All she wanted was to see the ocean one last time.

The moving photo is now being shared all over the world. Queensland Ambulance Service was transporting the dying woman to palliative care at a nearby hospital where she would spend the final moments of her life.

But on the way there, she had a question for the ambulance drivers. Could they take her to the beach.

See the ocean – one last time

All she wanted was to see the ocean one last time. So the ambulance staff took a shortcut to Hervey Bay, on Australia’s west coast.

Tears were shed

Once there, they carried the woman out to the beach so she could take in the beautiful ocean view.

“Tears were shed and the patient felt very happy,” ambulance staff wrote in their Facebook post.

“Sometimes it is not the drugs/training/skills – sometimes all you need is empathy to make a difference!”

Now the ambulance team are being recognised around the world for this stunning photo and for fulfilling the dying woman’s last wish.

My heart filled with joy when I saw this photo. I want to honor the ambulance staff who went above and beyond to make this patient’s final moments beautiful!
