The family of the 7-year-old girl left paralyzed in an accident at Loretta Lynn’s campground are holding out hope that she might one day walk again.
Little Sarah Faulkner, of Nashville, Tennessee was rushed to hospital after a teenager jumped on her back from 30-feet above while she was swimming on August 6 in Waverly.
Sadly, Sarah was left paralyzed from the chest down and was forced to have 19 staples in her skull.
The girl’s father, Tre Faulkner, told reporters: “She said when the girl landed on her back that her whole body froze, and she hit her head on the bottom of the creek and, evidently, drove her all the way to the bottom.”
Given the serious nature of her injuries, Sarah was rushed to hospital in Vanderbilt, Nashville, where her family asked doctors to be honest about her prognosis.
Tre explained: “I said, ‘Sir, man to man, just tell me the truth: will she ever walk again?’ He said, ‘No, I do not believe so … but there is something out there more powerful than me.'”
Even so, Sarah’s loved ones aren’t giving up hope that she will walk again.
“I believe God can and will heal my daughter,” Tre said.
He added: “I need a miracle. My wife needs a miracle. My children need a miracle. You need a miracle. Our country needs a miracle to show that God is real and God is alive.”
Meanwhile, the teenager who accidentally landed on Sarah’s back after diving into the water from a 30-foot ledge ran away in the confusion. Tre said his family is also praying for her.
“I asked her what she thought we should do with the girl, and she said we should forgive her. So, we literally prayed for the girl. We can’t imagine what kind of pain she is going through right now,” he said.
Sarah’s condition, though yet serious, has been steadily improving in hospital.
“Last night, she moved her feet … just barely moving them. So, we’re believing that God is in the process of healing this girl for his glory and his honor,” Tre said.
“Sarah will walk again.”
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Sarah and her family cover the medical costs of her treatment. It has so far raised $23,077.
We hope and pray that Sarah’s family are right and that she will walk again.
