Losing your dad as a child must be a terrible thing for a child to experience.
I remember doing all manner of things with my dad when I was younger. Things as simple as kicking a football in the garden, sitting on his knee after school and ‘helping him’ in his workshop became memories I’ll never forget. I can’t imagine life without him.
Even today, as an adult, the thought of losing him is too painful to consider.
This story concerns a boy who experienced something I’m thankful I never did. He lost his dad when he was young.
For a child, it can be difficult to fathom quite what ‘dying’ means. Which is why parents often tell their children that those who have passed have simply flown to heaven.
But what does that mean to a young boy or girl?
The seven-year-old in question, Jase, wanted to send a birthday card to his dead father in heaven. What happened after he tried to post the letter is one of the most heart-warming things I’ve read in a long, long time.
On the envelope, the boy had written:
“Mr. Postman,
Can you take this to heaven for my dad’s birthday.
Thanks”

Upon receiving a reply from the post office, the boy’s mom took to Facebook to divulge what had happened.
“A few weeks ago my 7 year old son posted this card to his dad in heaven and today he got a lovely reply from the postman ? I actually cannot state how emotional he is knowing his dad got his card… you didn’t have to make the effort to do this you could have just ignored it but the fact that yous have made the effort for a little boy you’ve never met is such a lovely thing to do Royal Mail you’ve just restored my faith in humanity and thank you it honestly means the world to him please share this so all the staff at Royal Mail know just how greatful we are ? thanks and merry Christmas x”

As for the postman’s response, it’s really quite something. He wrote:
“Dear Jase,
While we’ve been delivering your post, we became aware of some concerns. So I just wanted to take this opportunity to contact you about how we succeeded in the delivery of your letter, to your dad in heaven. This was a difficult challenge avoiding stars and other galactic objects on route to heaven.
However please be assured that this particular important item of mail has been delivered. Royal Mail’s priority is to get our customer’s mail delivered safely I know how important your mail is to you. I will continue to do all I can to ensure delivery to heaven safely.

What a truly incredible gesture from the postman. Imagine the happiness the boy must have felt, knowing his letter had gotten to his father.
