A six-week-old baby in Connecticut has died after contracting coronavirus in what is one of the youngest deaths attributed to the virus, as per reports.
Governor Ned Lamont explained in a statement on Wednesday that the infant had been brought to hospital unresponsive last week. Tragically, the six-week-old could not be revived.
The governor also said that the infant had tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday night.
Of the death, Lamont tweeted to say it was “absolutely heartbreaking,” and that: “This is a virus that attacks our most fragile without mercy.”
The governor stated his belief that, “this is one of the youngest lives lost anywhere due to complications relating to COVID-19.”
“This also stresses the importance of staying home and limiting exposure to other people,” he tweeted. “Your life and the lives of others could literally depend on it. Our prayers are with the family at this difficult time.”
Thus far in the United States more than 200,000 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed, resulting in over 5,000 deaths. Those figures are expected to rise in the coming weeks.
