When we become parents, we accept a responsibility we’ve never experienced or considered before.
Put simply, our lives cease to revolve around ourselves. Sure, we can still do many of the things we did before we were called ‘mom’ or ‘dad’, but welcoming a child into the world truly makes one realize – often for the first time – that oneself is perhaps not the center of the universe.
With that in mind, it’s not so strange at all that we love our babies so unconditionally. At times they can drive us crazy; make us question our sanity; leave us wondering how on earth we’ll ever survive until they’re old enough to take care of themselves.
At the end of each day, though, I challenge any parent out there to look at their sleeping son or daughter and still be of the opinion that their own life would be better without that little angel in it.
Indeed, there are some out there who would do anything to be able to hear their child laugh one more time; listen to them complain or scream in frustration; watch them single-handedly tear apart the apartment.
Spare a thought for the parents of Luke Meyveci, a young boy from New York who had the brightest of futures ahead of him. His mom and dad cherished him the way only doting parents can.
Little did they know that heartbreak was waiting just around the corner.
According to reports, Luke’s was getting ready to celebrate his third birthday when their world was turned upside down.
On Friday, October 14, 2-year-old Luke went to sleep and never woke up. Just two days before turning three, he passed away due to complications from heart surgery.
Posting a message on behalf of Luke’s grieving family, Michelle Barnathan wrote on a GoFundMe page:
“Luke was the happiest, sweetest, loving little boy who lit up every room he walked into with his big beautiful eyes and lashes. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He loved going to school, playing with his cars, and loved loved Spiderman. He was the best little brother to Amelia and the most beautiful little baby boy.“
The post continued: “He went to sleep and peacefully went to Heaven in our arms. Never in our worst nightmares were we ever expecting this to happen to our baby.”
At the time of writing, the GoFundMe has raised $54,973 of its $60,000 goal.

In the space of one inconceiveable morning, Luke’s family went from planning his birthday to having to planning his funeral.
On the day he would have turned three, October 16, Luke’s mom, Ashley Di Cairano Meyveci shared a message for her son. It read:
“We will celebrate you today and every day. You’re the most beautiful boy and it’s been incredible to see you grow up these last [three] years.”
The heartbroken mother posted four sweet pictures of Luke, remembering him how he was: a happy, carefree little boy who was cheerful and happy until the end.
I can only imagine the pain Luke’s family are experiencing at the moment. To suddenly lose a child is unfathomable – we’re sending all of our thoughts and prayers in their direction.
Please, if you want to say rest in peace to Luke, leave a comment or share this article on Facebook.
