With the world locked in the grip of coronavirus, many people simply aren’t able to get the supplies they need for everyday life.
Amongst those who are at heightened danger should they contract the virus are the elderly, whose immune systems perhaps aren’t as strong as they once were.
Even so, there are folks who are braving trips to stores all the same, only to find them stripped of necessities by people who have hoarded products.
When two 17-year-olds, Sam Hornsby and Matty Petty, from the UK, went shopping at ASDA, a British grocery store chain, they spotted an elderly man holding a single bag of flour.
What struck them most was the dejected look on the man’s face – he had very little to take home and his shopping cart was empty.
Sam and Matty knew the man’s plight was a result of COVID-19. They instantly took pity on him.
“All I was thinking was that I would never want to see my grandparents left to feel like that; it was so heartbreaking,” the boys told SWNS.
So, as they left the store that day they devised a plan – to pool together their money and use it to buy groceries and supplies for those in their community who need it most.
As per reports, Sam and Matty filled 10 bags with supplies and went door-to-door throughout their neighborhood, making drop-offs for all those who required help.
I’m pleased to say their act of compassion and goodwill sparked a chain reaction, with others in their area taking up the mantle and following suit!
Sam, Matty, we couldn’t be prouder of you and the fantastic work you’re doing.
During these troubling times, it’s more important than ever that we work together and show love for our community.
